If the Sunfire is discontinued, then is it going to be replaced by the Pontiac Pursuit??
"...nevermind maneuvers lieutenant, just go straight at them!"

discontinued. All J-body production was stopped at the end of 05. The cobaly os a delta platform, not a J.
1971 camaro 427 --- here!
Stock... and loving every minute of it.
I hope gm comes out with the cavalier in a couple years. I just want to see how bad they'll ef it up ... most new cars that came back into production were ugly
"Boost tuning"....... have you had your 8 PSI today?
future name of the winter shop!!!
The Pontiac Pursuit is being made to fill the void left by the Sunfire in the Canadian market only. In the States, they figure they're just fine with the Solstice and the Vibe.
Note that the dealer network is very different in the two countries so you could have a Pontiac/Chevy dealer in the States, who would be able to sell the Cobalt to people in the market for a small sporty car.
There is no such thing in Canada where GM controls the dealer setup such that Pontiac is only sold alongside GMC, Cadillac, and Buick except for in certain small markets.
That leaves those dealers with no entry-level vehicle, hence our Pontiac Wave (Aveo) and Pursuit (Cobalt).

what gives you any idea that the cavalier would ever come back? it's dead and gone. it was an econobox, its name means nothing to GM. thats why they got rid of the name and came out with the Cobalt.

a lot of people know the name of the cavalier to be a good, dependable, fuel efficent car...tahts why i think they will bring it back one day.....i guess kinda like there were monte carlos, then they changed the name to lumina, then back to monte carlos.
FOR SALE: (5) '95-'99 Z24 Rims
Also they got rid of the Camaro and there's talk of it coming back in the future and I realize Camaro is higher on the totem pole than the Cavalier but never say never...
gm will never bring back the cavalier name in a million years if you think otherwise, your insane.

That's not entirely trueI know a GMC dealership that was bought out by GM because they didn't want to sell Pontiacs, and every GMC dealership I've been too is also a Pontiac dealership.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
well its just saying they are comming back with the cameros so why not come back with cavaliers and sunfires in the future.
thier dead, leave them there
and the camaro, is at least from what i've heard still not a done deal
There is no way that GM will bring back the cavalier after the cobalt.
No way......
not in a century....nuh uh....ever.

Did you even read my whole post or did you miss this part?

The sunfire is still available in Canada as a fleet vehicle. There is a listing that GM will be filling last orders in 2006, but will still be listed as 2005 models. The fleet catalogue lists the sunfire at $16,230 base. ETS is extra, and there is a new "Sportec Package" avail for the 2005 model year.
Sorry... forgot to add something.
The Pursuit which is to replace the sunfire in Canada has a base model price of $15,925. So the pursuit is cheaper to buy, and is avail with the 170hp Ecotec.

Amen.
I was once like all of you. I once swore they would bring back the Corsica one day... but then I snapped into reality and realized it was nonsense.

and your point is? theres also been talks of GM bringing back the Grand National. will it happen? knowing GM no. the Camaro and the Grand National actually mean something to GM. The J-Bodies were just cheap econoboxes to them. And trust me, the J name out in the public, isn't that great. Thats partially why GM didn't keep the Cavalier and Sunfire name. It was time for them to move on anyways, get a fresh start with things. and i'm not bashing the J's. I love my J, it's been very good to me. I just have come to the reality that the Cavalier/Sunfire are dead and gone for good..

it may be listed as a fleet vehicle (and I believe you, because I've seen the order books), but they're no longer being built. You can order one, but it won't be made... it will be found unsold on a lot somewhere and shipped to you.
Yeah, weasel I read your whole post, but for soem reason I thought you were talking about Canada, not the States

......
I love my daily driver, autocross, beater, performance tuner car

Chances are good that GM will revive the name in 20 years or so... when all of us that remember our first cars will want to have another "Cavalier" or "Sunfire". It's all in the marketing.
There would be little value in killing off the Cobalt name and replacing it with Cavalier on the cars currently being produced.... whatever replaces the Cobalt in 10-15 years... maybe...
Think "Malibu".. or not.. it didn't do THAT well...
