jesus christ. This
NEEDS to be a sticky for the love of god.
from time to time there's a post about turbonators and a couple other useless "fuel saving devices", but it doesn't happen very often. this is a forum where newbies can feel welcome to start new posts, even if they havn't searched (although searching is still recommended before making any new posts). so if someone makes a post asking about any of these devices, simply give them the link to this thread and it'll be fine. so far though, there havn't been enough threads to warrant making this a sticky. besides, if this were made into a sticky, then almost every other thread in this forum would also have to have a sticky, and then there'd be no room for new threads and new questions (or introductions).
They always claim more hp with those craps.... hmmm fuel economy and performance.......

Does an intake installed on a restrictive vehicle free up MPG?
yes
1998 Sunfire, 2.2L auto
Let me qualify that a bit...
If you drive the car the same then yes, putting on a less restrictive intake (and exhaust) can net you better mpg.
Generally speaking though, this isn't the purpose of these mods and the end result is usually that you'll lean into the throttle more because you like the sound and performance so in the end you use more gas.
