im going to the junkyard tommorrow to find a door for my 98 cavi. I was wonderin if there is something in the VIN that i can look for so i know its a 98 or the right size door for my cavi. thanks

real easy...all 3rd gen (95 and up) have the same doors. any 2 door car can swap doors and any 4 door car can swap doors. you just can't swap a 2 door to a 4 door as the 2 doors are longer...

Yup, cavalier and sunfire doors from 95 to 2005 are all the same.

Just don't get one from a 95-02 Sunfire GT or any 03+ Sunfire or it'll have a bunch of holes in it.

Just in case you're still interested in the VIN decode, the model year is the tenth digit from the left. Not sure about 1998, but I think it should be a letter code, such as "V" or "W". Model years 2000-2005 are 0-5, respectively.
