Good day folks...
*Project background*
While my 98 Cavalier Z2.2L is not a daily driver, I do race it. Now, this isnt a 1/4 mile or street racing. It isnt even on the ground at all. Yes, I've commited my car to a life of torture ice racing. I bought the car about a month back, gutted the interior of all but the dash pad and centre console and steering coloum. Installed an 8 point cage, SFI spec harness, Kirkey seat, "type r" steering wheel... etc....
So... the first two trips to the track were more about dialing in the suspension to attain some semblence of traction, now that I have traction, I realize that I have a serious lack of power.
Thinking that the motor was damaged I went through and replaced all the plugs and wires, ran compression tests, checked for fuel pressure, checked timing and I cant find anything wrong with engine itself.
Now... it has 78k miles on it, which isnt a tonne.... and was lady driven (into a deer) so I played with the timing a little, advanced it 4 degrees... went to a slightly hotter plug and dumped synthetic oil in it. While it runs a LOT better, breaking the tires loose on the shop floor requires about a 4k rpm drop....
My question is this - What can I do to this thing? I know I need a header and an open exhaust, possibly one of the $25 intakes off of ebay. Will this help at all, or is there something i've missed?
RivalRacing (could it be Im used to a Miata?)
answers to your performance questions could be found in the performance forum
and you either have a Z or 2.2, not both
The side of the car reads z2.2........... Now... I was under the impression that the Z was a 2.4L but....... not sure.
its stickers from the deal. There is no Z22 or Z2.2 The only Z is a Z24
edit- stickers from the dealership, not deal LOL
known as dealer rice

Great, we've settled the sticker issue...
There is a big 59 on the door at the momment.... stickers dont mean anything,
Anyone with the thoughts on the header and intake or other ideas?
it would be a start but head work is a must on the 2200.

Alexis: Dustin, you're ghey, lol. I am better. I have tits, and tits rule all.
LSx springs and high ratio rockers, along with some port work and a good solid tune from HPTuners. a moderate exhaust/open header and an intake will help with the head work to make it breath better.
theres a huger wealth of knowledge on the performance forum from guys that have done everything imaginable to the 2200. theres also some decent turbo kits available out there, but not sure what restrictions your under for ice racing.

like I said, check out the performance section. look around in there and do some reading, you'll find more then you'll ever want to know.
