Curious as to what platform you all would choose to use to start a drag car...
not looking for advise, just opinions
You mean if I were to start from scratch and build a pure racing car?
Are we talking about new cars, or just any car?
starting from scratch, building a pure race car... starting with a shell basically.
And any car... new or old...

im telling you get a early 90's caprice with the lt1 9c1 in it and they run about 14 flat stock. With a full exhaust and an intake they are supposed o be able to reach mid to low 13's....
with a car in the 13's being practically stock and alot of weight loss potential you could probably hit 12's with very little problem....
and if this sounds stupid i actually found all of this a couple years ago in my hotrod magazine and they tested it.
caprice has been voted best sleeper and best car to get for drag racing in a couple magazines and i get around 10 mag's a month
i would agree with your choice anything with an sbc basically have endless tuning potential and the caprices chassis can take tons of abuse(even a few hits into the wall if it comes to that)
theres also the fiero. small, lightweight, and i've seen just about everything swapped into them...
Bang for the buck?
RWD....Fox Body Mustang or 2g F Body
FWD....Anything Honda that will fit a B18 or perhaps a 1g DSM with a 4g63
The above engines are embraced by the traditional (american) aftermarket as if they were all small block Chevy's from the 80's.
Also, the above chassis shells can be had for minimal investment.
A 90's S-10 or Sonoma with a V8 swap wouldn't be too far behind as shells go. Full frame and all.
Look past the GM S-10/Sonoma and find an Izuzu Hombre.... It's the same truck and most likely available a bit less expensive.

Yes i bought it to race! thats why i have 2 - 2004 cavaliers, ones a race car and ones a daily driver/back up race car/parts car and still making payments on both and still spending thousands of dollars THIS year just to move up a few spots on the top ten list! take that! i see the light on the 13 sec zone! maybe mid 13's before i get done with it. your all asking if i have a girlfriend? the answer is yes and she supports me 100% in fact i have two girlfriends, one is red and one is black. thats all for now

I saw a vid of a Smart with some wicked engine swap race a 360 Modena (could have been an enzo, but doubt it). That little thing flew.
But my picks would be:
RWD= GNX or Fox body
FWD= Early gen civic with gsr motor swap or escort
AWD= Obviously 1st gen DSM or Nissan

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
I personaly have a thing for the caprice's.........I got an 86 Sport Coupe White with White ragtop an a sunbleached red interior. 632 cbb with 1 big ass turbo....at least maybe one day if I ever make enough money to build it.
Top picks
1) Caprice-as long as it's a 2 door
2) Fox body Mustang Notchback
3) S-10 or sonoma
4) 67-72 Toyota Celica GT
5) 03-04 Terminator Cobra
take a early 94-00 s10 truck reg cab and then swap in a lt1 or ls1 motor in it and then well bolt on of course.
i am currently in the middle of building a full tube chassis 1972 chev nova rear tires are 33x16.5 full funny car roll cage certified to 7.50
8-71 blown alcohol injected small block chev
should run high 7s
I would choose a Dodge Daytona.
The reason being, it was a very solid car that even at high speeds kept solid to the ground.
I never felt like my Daytona floated around at high speeds like all other cars I have driven.
That is very important to me.
I would say a S10. I have one i built and its fun and cheap. I run 7.40's (1/8) all night long all motor and its tagged and inspected (streel legal). Easy to do (if you have mechanic skills!!). Its a solid 11 second truck and can be driven to the store. Of course its going to rattle some windows but you can do it!
Heres mine!!
All i need to be NHRA legal is a cage and some new harnesses.
My s10 weighs 2600lbs and i havnt did anything but gut the interior and built my own dash etc. Its the power to weight ratio!!!
Woop Woop!

Good lookin setup man. Thats alot of cage!! Once my rearend pops im doing a backhalf with a budget ladderbar setup and a narrowed 9". Im still running my stock 7.5" with 4.10's and a mini spool. With my mild 360 (350 .60 over) and a t350 with a 3800 stall i can come off of the convertor at 2500 with the foot brake and manage 1.62 60 foots all night long with a 26X9.5 Hoosier dot QTP (quick time pro). I also run 110 race gas. 7.50 a gallon! errr...im cruise it on the street though with 100LL AV gas. Best pass is a 7.44 @ 93mph and all other passes were from 7.45-7.51's depending on temp and humidity. Once i get some nitrous im going to shoot fo 6.80's! Woop!
^^ Thanks
Yeah the new car has alot of cage but you need the funny car cage to be able to run the class i want to run Top Sportsman. the other car just had a 8 point roll bar. and since the floor was all factory from the firewall back it was legal to run up to 10.00 I sprayed the motor once with a 100 shot and went 9.72@132 lol then got told not to do it again lol rear slicks on it are 28x10.5 in the stock wheel wells
people always looked at the bottom car too and say blah race car. but to be street legal it only needed tires, and exhaust both had at home
car is all steel with FG hood all windows glass, everything worked all interior minus seats were in it just 2 racing buckets and it still only weighed in at 2850
I'd pick a 1st gen Nova (1962-1965) because they weigh about as much as a Cavalier, but are RWD, and came with V8's. It's not too hard to stuff a big block in them either. Boost or N20+big block+Slicks in a car that weighs less than 2700 lbs=fuggin fast! It could be nice and quick too if the chassis is done right (full cage, subframe connectors and proper suspension mods).
I'd do my '65 Nova up for drag racing if it wasn't my 4 door family car with AC and power steering, lol. My drag car is actually a tad bit heavier than my Nova, lol.
It's oh so cheesey!
