cool idea with the t-shirts on the seats, other than that i just see cars with rusted hoods. Not really what i would consider a ratrod. The flat black civic, the Vdubs, and the yellow benz all look pretty cool though.
Thats cool!
"Remember do what you like because you have to drive it."--Me
A couple of the EG's and the volkswagen look cool, the EK civics are just too new to pull it off.
They look just like every other "tuner" honda around here.

how does a rusted hood make the car a rat rod?
i'm with everyone else FAIL!!!!! with just a rusty hood and whats with a bra on a rusty hood?
only one that i would kinda consider a rat rod would be the flat black civic with lime green flames and lime green wheels. everything else is a boat load of fail
I must have missed the memo. When did rusted hoods become the 'in' thing?

Just another import tuner trend like the retarded color 15's and stretched tires on VW's.... I hate it. Rusted hoods and flat painted bumpers doesn't make it a "modern rat rod". It just looks retarded. Complete failure on every single car except the flat painted civic. Only reason I am ok with that one, is because it at least has some good work done and potential to look right when it gets paint.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Its been a VW trend for a couple of years now. No idea why either. I have even seen MK5s doing it, and an Evo VIII.
It makes me want to punch babies.

Rat-rods.
Giving broke ricers to have an excuse for half-assed cars.
Trends, this one sucks.
Yuck. And how the hell does that Civic not get pulled over for the lack of tail lights?
these are not "rods" of any type just beat ass ugly cars

No! just that damn simple...
So, rust is the "in" thing now? lol, guess I'm not repainting my car!
this thread makes me realize that as much as things have changed since the 50's and 60'sm its all stayed the same
I remeber when I was a kid talking to my dad about musclecars he made a comment about how not all of them were that cool. like people putting a 850cfm carb on an otherwise stock mopar 318ci v8, people putting cherry bomb mufflers on like strait six 4door novas and then trying to take on my dads roadrunner. he also has commented on how people were always trying new things, and how most of these new things just werent as cool as we would like to think when we think the word "musclecar"

Couldn't have said it better myself.
well if rust=rat rod... IM ON MY WAY!!!!!
...these cars + "ratrods"= horrible fail
Maybe the title of the thread should be modern rat rod styling

I think there is taillights just to the outside of the tribal, simple small rectangle lookin ones
I sort of like the rat-rod thing, but these cars might not be great examples. Purposely rusting a hood does not really capture the essence of rat-rod, check out this thread for some better examples. Its a long thread but they're in there pretty frequently.....

Its a fine line. Its not cool to purposely make your car look like @!#$. But slamming and boosting an already rusted car, well I think that can be pretty cool sometimes. Sure there are some flaws in the logic, but its really just a personal preference thing.
Now, the real problem is trying to find 1990+ rats that work, as there are rarely cars less than 20 years old in the condition required for justifying a rat style build....
pic from that thread:
oh yeah I would so fukin rock it
