I would have gotten a hatch if I wanted the whole initial D thing.
I got a coupe because its lighter and has a stiffer chassis due to the fact it doesn't have the huge open area in the rear from the hatch. The 1800 price tag helped also
But I didn't pick this up to be a mad tyte jdm drifter y0. I plan to do auto x. So its getting stock springs and will stay stock for a bit.

Awesome that you like the car, and hope to see some nice mods under it for auto-x, but what is the deal with all the fanboy's I have noticed with those cars?

There are a lot of fan boys for AE86's. The big deal is they are RWD and almost a perfect 50/50 weight ratio. The GTS's came with VVTI and LSD stock. Along with 4 wheel disc brakes. They are underpowered but make out standing drift/auto x cars because they handle so well. Not to mention there is a handful of after market support to them. Its hard to find a car older that handles so well.

Yeah but to drift you have to be able to spin the tires while going a good speed.... is 100 hp good enough?
I love the styling and potential of them.

nice i had a 89 gts, great cars. except the interiors looks like someting out of the rectangle universe, mine was that nasty maroon interior. u got lucky with grey, they also come in gay faded blue. the blue interiors seem to get brittle compared to the others with time and sun.

I don't think "everyone" has an AE86 boner. Its just like any other car. What's the deal with the mustang fanboys?

oh nooo. lol the only thing that sucks about that is it has the 4a-ge, not the 4a-gze. so it doesn't have the supercharger =[

No plans as of yet. I want to keep it stock for now and run some auto x with it. Then its suspension upgrades.

The AE86 was no offered with the 4agze in it. JerseyJay is on the right track though. 4age 20v has as much horsepower as the 4agze and its all motor. I'm not sure if I'll swap to a 20v black top or rebuild/turbo this motor. Its a lot of work to swap the 20v in for a little gain. Its a decent gain but I like turbos
Yeah but too much power in a car like that throws the balance all to hell... Not the physical weight balance mind you, speaking more of the "personality" of the car. An AE86 isn't meant to be the fastest car in a straight line... If I ever had one, it would totally get the 20v, and maybe some minor mods to that and that would be it. I don't even know whats available for the 20v motor in the way of cams and such but a bet some high-comp pistons and bigger cams would make that sucker REALLY fun. Besides, as proven so many times on the JBO- any @$$hole can slap a turbo on and go fast, NA is so much cooler.
