Last month, during a discussion with journalists about our “May the Best Car Win” marketing campaign, I was trying to get across just exactly what that theme means. And what it means is, of course, just what it says.
We have a lineup of vehicles that we think, if given a chance, can stack up with the best the rest of the automotive manufacturing world has to offer. One of the examples I cited was the Cadillac CTS-V, and I went so far as to challenge the journalists to find a stock production sedan on the planet that could outperform the CTS-V on the track. I proposed a track duel, “run what ya brung,” at a time and place to be determined.
Well, that time and place has been determined. The guys at Jalopnik.com were the first ones to respond to the challenge, quickly and most enthusiastically, but I suspect there will be more. We’ll be having a full racetrack challenge October 29 at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, N.Y., not far from the New York City area.
And I put the challenge out to you. If you own a car comparable to the Cadillac CTS-V (a 4-door production stock sport sedan) and you want to match up against me and the Cadillac, you can join us at Monticello. Follow the link here to fill out an application. From the list of applicants we’ll select several challengers to join us for the V-Series Challenge.
As I said in the previous chat, we’re going to take away every last excuse people have not to consider our products. We know that some consumers still think Cadillac cars do not have the top-end performance they believe the German luxury cars have. The development objective of the 556-hp Cadillac CTS- V was to create the world’s best high-performance sedan. In final testing, the car lapped the legendary Nurburgring in 7:59.32, fastest ever for a production sedan (recently eclipsed, reportedly, by Porsche Panamera). In other words, we believe we have achieved our goal of building the world’s fastest sedan, but I look forward to putting that theory to the test…. and may the best car win.
About 120 people signed up, GM will choose between 5-10 candidates. And if you're a pro-driver, Lutz will bring John Heinricy to level the field.

The straight line acceleration of the CTS V is very impressive that would also help it pull out of long corners such as on a road course very quickly.
I wonder how a stock Mitsubish Lancer Evolution X MR would do.

What would be interesting is how they plan on scoring it. Do they take into acount skidpad, G force, slalom times, 1/4 mile times, auto cross times, road course times?

I don't think anything Mistu in the US even closely resembles a sport luxury sedan. Although I wouldn't mind seeing the two go head-to-head.
The first 3 vehicles I'd buy if I ever win a huge jackpot:
Corvette ZR-1
Cadi CTS-V
and some sort of GM truck.
The only car that I could think of even remotely close on price, and also qualifying as a luxury sports sedan, that I could see being real competition was the Jaguar XF, as in the 4 door luxury model of the XK. Needless to say, the Jag was one of the only cars I could find that held it's own but the V still smoked it. I honestly did not realize how badass that new Caddy was, until I check out this thread and then did some of my own research. Can you say sleeper?

It all seems par for the course to me. Of course the evo is slower...it is only down a whopping 265hp and 251tq! Oh and lets not forget the EVO X MR only cost $20,310 less! Im betting if you put that money into mods so you were racing equally priced cars the EVO would have easily made up the mere 12 seconds it got beat by.
Also I have no proof of this but I would not be surprised at all if the CTS-V they ran was not completly stock. With as much as he had riding on this bet I am sure they were not leaving anything to chance. I would also bet that they did their research and picked a track that was well suited to the CTS-V.
None the less I don't want it to sound as though I am taking credit from the CTS-V as it is a very impressive car. It should come as no surprise that this car has perked the aftermarkets attention. Mr Hennessy could not keep his paws off one. Check out the link below.
