2011 Corvette Z06's new tire
Friday, February 05, 2010 11:13 AM

I personally thought that everytime I took a drive in the C6 Zo6 in the road corse, that the achiles heel has been those lousy Goodyear runflat. Looks like I was not the only one to complain on it as Goodyear Tire & Rubber company just announced that its newest ultra-high-performance tire, the Eagle F1 SuperCar G 2, will be standard equipment on the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Goodyear calls the tire "street-refined, but track-capable." asymmetric directional tread design with massive tread blocks on the outboard shoulder help enhance the SuperCar G2’s dry cornering grip, while sweeping Aquachannel grooves on the inboard tread enhance wet cornering grip. This tire with serrated band sidewalls and distinctive lettering helping create an ultra-performance look has been tested on several of North America’s best road courses. Best of all, this ultra-high-grip summer tire will be available this summer, in these run-flat sizes: P275/35ZR18 and P325/30ZR19.

for the cost of such a wanna be drag radial... ill pass.

i'd be willing to be those suckers are $400 a piece, and thats on the low side.

are they neat? absolutely. the price of goodyears has always steered me away though....

I agree totally. Goodyears always seem to have too soft a compound and therefore wear too fast to justify the ridiculous cost. Personally I think having AAA is a better deal. I'm almost ready to replace the run flats on my vette and i think i'm going with a normal tire, and my spare if i need it? it will be a flat bed tow truck from AAA roadside assistance.

325 for the rear? Holy good lord! When ever we get a customer come in with a vette it's atleast 1000 in tires. But good lord, 325 ... oh my oh my! For those that dont know their tire size, thats just under 13" wide when it's inflated.

Ummm brad, its not a "wanna be" drag radial. Its a run-flat high performance tire geared towards wet and dry track traction. Huge differrence than a tire made just to launch hard on....

And every 2011 z06 owner wants to be careful, as much of a pita as run flats and low pros are to change, imagine how many meat headed drop outs will be cracking fenders now!

because you never road race. There are different kind of race radials than DRAG radials. And I have actually never seen a drag radial with that sophisticated of a tread design. it looks nothing like a drag radial. I have drag raced on 2 of the most popular drag radials out, seen all the others, and raced on slicks... also seen a lot of road race oriented tires and EASILY see how hugely different they are. This is nowhere near a DR.

i take it you've never seen a bfg g-force DRAG RADIAL before dustin? it looks nothing like a drag slick. and quite frankly neither do plenty of others out there...

the fact of the matter is the tread design doesnt need to be 'like a slick' for it to be a drag radial. i think your thinking of older dr's that have like a few divets on them and are so called DOT legal. i really dont see how they think those small ass divets will direct water away but whatever. they are obviously summer only tires.

this tire reminds me of a drag radial because of its flat less is more design. thats all.

has nothing to do with it's compound or wear rating, i simply made an opinionated statement by looking at a picture, that is all. to me.. it looks like plenty of other drag radials on the market. but yes, it also looks like plenty of race radials.

I HAVE OWNED BFG DRs and they DO NOT have an asemetrical tread like that. None of them do. That alone distinguishes that straight line launching is not it's use like a DR. Not one single DR looks anything like that at all.

Nitto DR:

Just saying,..... DR's don't look anything like those

i saw a droptop vette yesterday that must have had at least a 345 on the rear, and probably 20/22" staggered wheels, it made me happy in a mildly sexual way, just sayin

the g force has treads that go all over the place.

look at half the vette tire dustin... the right hand side is all flat easy going surface whereas the left side has angled cuts in the rubber.

its half and half so were both wrong and both right.

JLAudioCavalier is 100% correct.
It does not act, be, look like DR. It is a Ultra High Performance/Extreme Summer tire or to the very least a Ultra high performance all season.
And those large blocks on the right side of the thread is made for cornering grip or for some lateral Gs, the left side is design to dig on the ground during a corner in dry or wet. That left side of the tire will be relied for control or channel of power to the ground when the weight shifts to the other wheels.
