I have a show coming up pretty soon and its about a 2 hour drive. I want to somehow protect my front bumper from rock chips or any other debree during the trip. What do you guys use? I don't really want to take the bumper off and put it on at the show again. I want a different alternative. Thanks.
how about that stuff they put on new cars on their way to the dealership?
i've heard of some sort of a clear protective film you can slap on there. can't remember where it was though, sorry.
Just be careful....Thats my suggestion
Please don't go there and try swapping bumpers while your at the show....it looks unprepared and if something cracks or breaks your SOL. Plus you,ll have a stock bumper laying in your nice clean interior.
I go to shows all the time in the summer...and drive 2+hours for shows and all i can do is say a prayer nothings going to come darting across or no rocks are going to find its way on my bumper.
I know its probably not the best solution but if you don't have a trailer and still want to do shows thats my suggestions.

btw, if your super concerned i believe 3M makes a custom adhesive clear tape cover for your car parts....its like tape but is custom fitted to bumpers to protect them....now i dunnoo how noticable the 3M cover will be....but its just a thought
Don't follow too closely to other cars, that will cut down tremendously on rocks flying up and hitting your car. I think thats the real reason they invented the three second rule or whatever the hell it is lol.

yea i would use painters tape ... on the last hin show i went too ... people that came from so-cal used it to protect there front ends... i watched as they did it ... .. they taped up s2000s and some other hondas .. that may be the way to go

I have seen a product by 3M and Folia Tec, you can find it on their websites, they are both the clear protective kind, but painters tape seems like a good option, and cheaper too.
That stuff from 3M is meant to stay on the car so I don't imagine you'd be able to easily remove it when you got to the show.
That painters tape seems like a good idea. It comes off clean, doesn't it? Sort of like a thin post-it note or something?
Has anyone actually done it? What were the results?
the tape scares me...how hard is it to get off....

I've seen Numerous cars do that.. I never quite new why.. but now it all makes sense! Well if you buy the Blue kind like on the cars shown, I jsut worked wit that this weekend. It hold very good and comes off w/o leaving any adhesive.. at least to plastic. When I get home I'll clean off a spot on my dirty arse trunk (which is black) and stick some on there for awhile.. take it off after a few days and take pics for you all to see. That way it will simulate it being on there in different temperatures as well as long durations. But with my working with any Painters tape.. it all removes easily w/o any adhesive left behind. I would reccomend you do this.. b/c it's cheaper and at least it will protect your front bumper.

I saw the 3m stuff but like mentioned above its mostly for applications were u want it to stay on for a long period of time. I guess painters tape will have to do it then. Thanks guys.
lay down a layer of painters tape or two then get a small roll of poly padding for laminate or hardwood floors (pretty thin but a nice cushion for rocks and @!#$) and cut to fit over the bumper and openings then cover with whatever tape you want just don't get it on the paint if it aint the blue or purple painters tape.
ive been trying to figure out what im going to do this season when i get my car painted, i never thought of painters tape. Thanks for making this post!!!
Painters tape seems like a great idea! Ive never thought of that... I'm suprized that no one mentioned seran wrap, thats what people used to suggest a year or 2 ago.
But my question is, do you drive on the highway with your car ever? Because this will be exactly the same as that.....

To tell you the truth I don't drive my car on the freeway a lot. For longer trips I usually use one of our other cars. This trip isn't really like regular freeway driving. The trip is going to be on long stretches of freeway and mostly out in no peoples land. Thats were all the rocks deposit on the freeway and all the bugs hang out.
we've got a nice roll of saran wrap/clear plastic that i was gonna use on the trip to the 03 bash, but i decided against it
but if i have anything special by this bash, ill probly go ahead and use it this year
Painters Tape works the best. I've used it countless times. Very easy to take off n doesnt leave any resadue or n e thing. I live in northern DE and my friends n I usually go down to the beach and O.C.M alot during the summer thats all we use. We used it last year to go the O.C.M. show last yr. and it worked great.
