***CF hood maintenace***

Hey everyone, the easter bunny left me a CF hood this weekend! I still havent put the hood on (can wait, I'll post pics as soon as I install the hood) But I have a couple of questions. Whats the best way to keep it looking good? I can still wax it correct? I also had a questions do I have to pin it down? Would it be better to pin it down? What should I look out for? Thanks my JBO buddies

Waxing carbon is always best with 100% Carnuba Wax, you should only need to pin a hood if it has a weak inner, in other words if it cost less than $400 I would Pin iIt.

Yeah i just had my Invader installed three days ago. As long as the latch is holding it down you dont really need hood pins. If the hood is lachted...its latched. It wont go no where.

And thats BS Easter Bunny didnt bring me crap for my car!

not true.....ive seen a hood that was completely latched....break off the latch and fly up at highway speeds because it was too light and the underside wasnt too strong

Okay, so I take it PIN IT and be safe, even though I only do city driving. So I take it Sparco pins are the best to get?

even though its latched, at speeds on the highway, wind can get under the hood and unlatch it. ive seen it before. my buddies cowl hood on his truck came right thru his windshield, shattering the whole glass.

I wouldn't be so worried about it "unlatching" as I would about the latch actually tearing itself out of the hood.

Most aftermarket hoods are not properly tested so there's just no telling whether they'll hold up and for how long.

The only company I know of that has properly tested hoods is RK Sport. They'd have to do the testing to have them certified as GM Authorized Accessories.

Other than those, you're really best off with hood pins. The part where the latch screws in could be held together by some thin or shoddy fibreglass or something that could easily tear over time. You just never know.

Better safe than sorry.
