I was going to shave my tail lights, and recess some old mercury or caddy taillights in, but im not really wanting to get into another project that big. So i was thinking about getting the 03 taillights with the trunk thing, shaving the bowtie and key hole off, and then painting it all to give it the cobalt tails look. I will post a picture of a photoshop someone had for there car in a few minutes. My trunk is shaved right now, and i dont really like the look of nothing being there.
heres the picture i was talking about.
I think it would look hot.....this would be something I would do if I was modding my cav, but I gotta save for a new car
i would do he caddy lights, i thought bout doin it but i have another idea instead, either way it should look good tho, i just think the caddies would seem more custom thats all, later
pic coming soon

^^^^ I agree with you, but i dont have a beater, so i have to have all of my modifications done in a weekend. I guess i could get it driveable in a weekend, but i also hate driving around with half finished things on my car. Plus i have the major urge for paint. You probably get tired of being in primer also. I think im leaning towards the 03 lights. I like the look of them more since they fill up all of that blank space a little more.
Heres what i have planned to do before paint as of now:
1. something with the tailights
2. about 100 hours of bodywork (sounds like a lot, but im molding a urethane kit) and tons of door dings, and dd dents.
3. change front bumper
4. shave gas door, and relocate filler
5.sand/fiberglass interior pieces so they can be sprayed with car.
I also have to pull the engine, gut the interior, and remove all of the rubbers(weatherstripping) before it goes in the booth. When i pull the engine, im port and polishing the head, secret cams, 56mm tb, header, and catback exhaust. Im also going to look into what internals i have to change for boost, cause i am superchaging it next winter. So an extreme taillight conversion is just one more big project to add. I can have the 03 conversion done in about an hour (unpainted).
more suggestions welcome.
hotness, mold it to the body so its flush
im planning on adding the colbolt inners when i shave my inners but im the same way i dont have a beater and i only have the weekend to do my mods so i cant do a big conversion either but i think u should do the 03 and paint it will look good and i like the way you are goin with your car man keep it up
Im gonna head out to the junkyard tommorrow if im off work, and see if i can find some. I doubt i will, but i have seen a few every now and then. Im also gonna check ebay just incase. If i can get them this week, i will have it done next weekend most likely. I would go and look today, but its mothers day, so i cant do that. I'll post pictures and possibly a how to when i get it all done.
Thanks for all of the comments.
More comments and suggestions welcome.

Molding in actual Cobalt lights might end up looking hot, but simply painting around the stock ones just screams "cheap" to me.
I've never seen any painted lenses come out looking like anything but painted lenses. They end up with all the class of the masked off headlight covers.
^^^^ agreed but i have the center reflector u could pick it up for 50 bucks + S & H. let me know.

its not just being painted, its being shaved and molded flush with the trunk, so i wont necessarily be painting my taillight reflector, i will be painting my trunk. If i dont like the way it looks after i get it all in primer, then i will sell it and start over with something new. Thats one of the good things about primer, its cheaper and less of a hassle to modify a car in primer than it is when its all painted.
Streaker, im gonna check the junkyards tommorrow, and if i dont find anythere then i may get that reflector from you.

^^^^Thank you very much :-)
95cavirider.... do what you gotta do. Im sure it'll come out pimp. Surprise us. As long as it looks good, it ain't cheap to me. Mine don't look cheap or anyone else's painted 03+ looks cheap of course unless it REALLY looks like a bad paint job. Vinyl would be cheap IMO.
im gonna try and start on it this weekend, and ill be sure to post pics when im finished. Im fixin to go and look for the lights, so it all depends on how easily i can find them as to when i get it done.
good luck man i know a guy who did it here and it kinda looks like crap. I had to say my 2 cents

^^^^ that looks good, but the tailights prolly cost an arm and a leg. Plus i dont have time to do something that major right now.
