I just wondered if anyone had a site like Chris's tutorial on FG except for Carbon Fiber.
I have a metal OEM hood in which i would like to either glass and then wrap in carbon fiber or just wrap it in carbon fiber.... any ideas
talk to Ben (Tabasco Racing) he is the man on carbon fiber
i know you have to heat it up and attach it w/ some type of adhesive. plus its pretty had to shape and keep the weave right. yea i would talk to ben he can help. he works w/ cf alot
Wait a minute...
You're going to use CF to add weight to your stock hood???
Replace the hood with a cf one :p
It's going to:
1. Look a lot better
2. Fit properly
3. Not crack apart after 3 months

I would deffinatly be interested in hearing more about the basics of working with this stuff, i made a few attempts and couldnt get the results i wanted i got a really good mold pulled off the arm rest in my car, produced a decent carbon fiber version of it as well but i used the actual arm rest as a plug and had a 2 peice mold, i used epiglass epoxy resin with a medium/ regular hardner and used a couple of clamps to keep the whole lot nice and snug, the problems i had were 1 a ton of air bubbles that showed up aroung a back corner and where i clamped the work it squeezed the hardner and distorted the weave. If Ben sees this forum i would like to know how he produces things in a mold with C/F, feel free to email me with any tips you might have, i've got some other questions and dont really have anyone around here that knows c/f all that well.

I don't think wrapping your stock hood would be the best idea.
yes i know you want it to fit right and not have it crack, but dont forget, it could get really expensive and if not done right will put a hole in your pocket. You'd need to get it cleared and protected from the UV rays aswell to protect the finish from chipping and turning yellow.
for the hood, i would suggest just buying a cf one. For the most part hoods arn't really that bad of a fit. Just play around with your fenders a bit and you can get it to work.
It's going to:
1. Look a lot better --> well it might not look as good.
2. Fit properly --> it should for sure b/c it is your stock hood.
3. Not crack apart after 3 months --> you might have chipping issues with the clear, and i really don't think quality c/f hoods crack apart after 3 months!
I suggest just checking the classifieds or ebay for a c/f hood, or ordering straight from a company.
also, if something does go wrong, you not only ruin the c/f you just puchased, but you will ruin your stock hood aswell.
try out some smaller pieces first before you tackle such a job on your first attempt.
