Where you live do you ever get snow ? I ask becasue when those key holes fill up with water from you driveing around all day and then you park it at night and Ooops forgot your dome light on or something else then the next morning the key hole is now sealed shut with ice and you have a dead battery. Its happened before and its no fun trying to thaw out that lock with a blow dryer when its freezing cold.

IMO, PASS.

do not get locking hood pins, if they rust you'll never be able to get the hood open

I was lookin at some of these similar.. just the polished ones instead of c/f..

Joe, how did the washers above the hood stay on? do they have a adhesive or does the lock actually hold it on? and do you like these pins better?

I personally dont think id have a problem cuz i drive all city but i do sumtimes reach 45-50mph.. and i rather not have to worry about my hood flying up on me.. makes it a lil easier knowing i can just go on the highway and not have to worry about the hood.. plus with college ill be driving further and highway.. I think alot of people will agree when i say, when u upgrade hoods, mise upgrade with pins

Easy, ever any iceing up problems ? My neihbor accross the strret had them on his Camaro and one year they froze over, his battery was dead and he was screwed. The next day we installed regular hood pins and he threw out the locking ones. IMO they are in no way worth the risk.

i dont know about iceing, since she only gets driven in nice weather now

but when i did have to drive it with my old hood pins(sparco) in the winter, those things froze solid also. it sucked, but i can compare that to what these would do. sorry

is the hood blowing up an actual problem?? i mean i thought as long as you shut your hood right its not gonna blow up?

Re: hood pin help
Friday, January 27, 2006 6:20 AM
thats what i thought before i put on my sparcos. i would be driving at like 55mph and i could see it floating around. scared me enough. not worth a smashed window, roof and hood.

Eazy, thats what I was getting at. If you drive your car in the winter do not use these you only asking for trouble.

You have been warned.

it is a problem. the hoods are so much lighter and wind gets under them and sometimes the wind catches the latch and then, well you can imagine the rest

i got pins in mine just for safety. when i take my car to work, its all highway miles plus i have to go over a bridge and its windy as @!#$ going over bridges. i use to see my hood shake like crazy

i had the regular locking hood pins when i had my car...they worked good, aligning them was a pain but once there on your set, no problems at all, the brand i had where mr gasket, got em from summit racing...

It's not the weight. It's the quality of the hood. Most aftermarket companies just don't have the quality control that you'd want to trust your life, windshield, and roof to.

RK Sport hoods are approved GM accessories so they've been tested and are known to be solid. I don't know if any other aftermarket hoods for our cars have that backing.

With that in mind, I'd use pins on just about all of them. Better safe than sorry.

drilling the holes for the pins won't mess up the rest of the hood will it?

Not if you do it right.

Of course, if you do it wrong... or with the wrong bit... then yeah, of course you could do some damage. Hell, you could walk the bit right across your hood and write your name, if you were so inclined.

Re: hood pin help

kinda stupid question.. but can't u drill up from the bottom? could mount the pins then lower the hood with either tape on it or sumthing that will mark the hood.. then just drill up..

Re: hood pin help

drilling is where i messed up. on the stock hood that is two pieces of metal that are about an inch thick, and it best to drill the 1st hole from the bottom after you mark it re mark it for the second hole. that is how i drilled hole number two. turn out a lot better. but i may have done it wrong
