I'm looking to clean up under the hood, and was wondering what is involved in removing the quad 4 cver and polishing it. i have access to a sandblaster if necessary, but was curious as to hw hard it is to do, and if anyone had pictures of what it might look like, could you post 'em.
Thanks

well, find all the top valve cover bolts, remove them. Lift cover off, if it refuses to move, tap lightly with a rubber mallet.
Once off, clean off all the dirt, then start sanding. from 80 grit to 2000 grit, wetsanding with the higher grits. It will take about 40 hours by hand. The polish to a beautiful shine.
THEN use a hightemp clear coat (spraypaint) to keep the shine for a long time.
on a quad, there are 4 13mm bolts on top. remove those bolts and pull. then sand like said above
SANDBLAST THE PISS OUT OF IT! once you get all the old crap off and its back down to its original surface ide say you could prob start with 120gritt, 80 might be a little to rough... try 120 and if doesnt work you can always cut it down to 80. But if you want it to be polished you will need to go from about 120 to about 2500. Good luck, hope u got the arm strength for some mad sanding hours.
OneBadZ24, Nice Ride. My Z is Indigo as well, and maybe some say will be a hot as yours. Thanks for the tips. I'll be at work late tonight, so maybe I'll try ny hand at blasting it. Can you run the car with the cover off? What kind of wheels are on your Z.

1. Deff sand blast it, it is the quickest and most efficient way to get it all the dirt and old crap off of it.
2. No, you cant run the car without it on because of the spark plugs being attached... unless you convert and run spark plug wires.
3. The wheels are 18" Rota Sub Zeros
ill take some pics of my cover in a few since i cant find any on my comp.

If you don't feel like bothering with sandpaper and all that, drop me an e-mail. I have a spare IDI cover and it would only take me a few hours. By the time I sent it off to you, the raised parts would all look something like my valve cover (below.) If you want the recessed parts done, it'd be a little more time consuming.
Agent Omega, how much are we talking about for all polished vs raised. I was actually thinking about doing a raised part polished, and recessed part body color in Indigo. what do you think?

^^^Sure you can--but the sanding method is fairly time-consuming

If all you want polished is the raised parts, it'd be about $45.00 for the labor/materials. Turn-around would be a week on this (just because we're fairly swamped at the moment.) We'll pick up the shipping charge on the way back to you.

No seal. It's not a valve cover. It's not holding in any fluids.

Make sure you use High Temp paint....... Mine was sprayed with GM Ing. Metalic paint and it started peeling after about 9-10 months...... and it was prepped theroly.
Here's a pic of what it used to look like
This time around, its getting powder-coated....... and the letters/ribs are getting polished again.
