Hardtop convertible conversion?

Alright, I've been thinking about this idea for a long time and I really want to do it, but I can't find anything that would help. I know that because Cavaliers have unibodies so if this is possible it would be difficult and would need alot of reinforcement. Secondly, I can't find any of the hardware sold separetly, like the locks or weather stripping or whatever else. I just want to know if this is possible and where I could get the hardware needed to do this. Thanks.

Are you talking about making a hard top for a car that's already a convertible or actually cutting the roof off a coupe and then trying to make a hard top for it?

would probably be easier to do the first option as the vert already has the extra bracing installed. all it would really entail is cutting the roof off a coupe, bracing it up and fabbing up a mounting system to have a hard top.

^ Yup. You won't want to pay the pricing for the GM bracing (assuming you could even get it anymore.... and I think it's all been trashed by now). There's roughly 30 pieces of bracing in a third gen convertible, you would also have to modify the doors, replace the glass, etc.... just to get rid of the door frames.

I've already thought about getting rid of the convertible roof, and just having a hard top. Much lighter... the hardware is already on the existing top, just re-useit.

dont they have to continue to make parts for cars for like 10 years after they discontinue it? so they would have to keep making convertible parts until like 2010?

If that were true, it still would be more cost effective to start with a vert and fab-fit the hard top.
