HID High beam problem
Sunday, May 18, 2008 4:18 PM
I have installed my HID kit, disabled the DRL's to prevent the flickering, but still cannot get any highbeams. I could not find an existing thread on this issue so if anyone has any suggestions it would be most appreciated.

Yea sounds to me like you didnt get a bi-xenon kit

do they have large magnetic bases on them?

If not they are single function.

yep u only have lowbeams the kit u have was not offered in a dual beam. the kits for dual beam started at 8000k which are the ones that start looking deep blue.

They are hi/low dual filament. Of course the wiring diagram wasnt all that clear, and it was stated that it shouldve been just a matter of "plug n play" but of course it never mentions the DRL issue and now how to get around my high beam problem.

yeah, post some pics. do you have ANY change with the high beam switch? does it kill the lights completely? anything??

if you did get the dual beam kit....should be easy enough to figure out.

Yea with some kits you have to switch the pins in the socket because they may be set up for 9004 use.

That may prove to be a little difficult, without uninstalling it all to take pics, the simplest thing i could do is post a pic of the wiring diagram that wa supplied.

hmmm seems like since they give you generic install instructions that your headlights are pinned for 9004 use

I would suggest switching the pin outs and seeing how it goes

litterally pull the pins from the socket and plug them into your stock socket to find the right function i dont have a diagram as to what one is what right now but thats what you need to do

Are you meaning to pull the pins at the bulb socket or at the harness where it connects to the original socket?

Ok one more foolish question, I have been running the HID ballast on low beam, is it meant to be running off high beam or is it set up properly as it is?

If its a dual function bulb it should be running off both hi and low

It should have 3 pins if it only has two then you have a single function set

there is two different filaments, one large and a smaller one. my understanding is the large is the HID and the other was for high beam, but now im wondering if it is meant for low instead.

Do you have 3 wires in the socket? If it doesnt have 3 wires going to the socket it only low beam only

Re: HID High beam problem

oh....you have that setup, so it has 4 wires coming off the back of the bulb.

you need to attach power and ground from the low beam signal to the ballast.
attach the ballast to the hid part of the bulb (should have waterproof clip-style connectors

then check and see if you have (+ 12v) on your high beam wire WHEN OFF!

If you do have (+12v) with high beams off, then you need to run a constant (switched) +12v source to the high beam bulb. when the switch is activated, the +12v that was on your wire, will now be switched to ground, completing the circuit.

But if i go with that, what will shut the hid off when i manually toggle a switch to activate the high beam filament?

Re: HID High beam problem

yes, the direct setup above will turn OFF the low beams when the high beams are activated.

you can wire a relay to counteract this, but if you want more details, I will need to make sure you have the grounding switch as mentioned above.
