question about sunfire body kits?
Monday, November 30, 2009 12:32 PM
someone suggested i post this at this site and someone could answer this for me.

Can a body kit be augmented easily? same make different yr.?
i traded in my 96 sunfire for a 05. i've been looking into body kits for awhile. i absolutely love the xplosion kit.

it fits 95-02. would it be possible and how hard would it be to augment it to fit a 05? they sell different ones for 03-05 but not the xplosion type. that ones my favorite looking like a frieking batmobile.i had emailed the manufacturer suggestiong they make it for 03-05. i've read about 6them not being guaranteed to fit and redrilling holes and such...

i had signed up for autoshop back in hs but not enough of others did so they canceled it.wish they didn't. weird. every other commerical now is for a car school...any of you grease monkeys think it's even worth it? i'd probably only get the front bumper. don't really care for side skirts and back. just curious about this front bumper. i ended up getting my used car as white. first white car. much rather it be a blue, grey or black. eventually i'm thinking i'll paint it.

If you really want that front bumper.

*95-02 sunfire headlights.
*95-02 sunfire hood

Possibly a different crush guard. Personally, I wouldn't change all that for just the front bumper. Any way the rear bumper in the picture will not fit any 2 door Sunfire. Only 4 door sunfires or any cavalier 95-05...

I looked into doing the exact same thing years ago when the xplozion kit first came out. I even bought one of the first kits from the guy who made the original prototype. The fitment on those kits were horrible just for getting them to fit the 95-02. I gave up fitting it to the 03-05 lights before I even got started good. Needless to say I have a cut up xplozion kit laying in my scrap pile.

My advice: If you want a body kit for your new car go for something like the Razzi kit.

Is it literally cut up into pieces or is it still a whole bumper? Just curious...

Let's put it this way. The front bumper was so f'd up the bottom middle section would bow up when bolted on. Not to mention the front just looked too long. Could be because they made the original kit by forcing a Celica body kit to fit a Sunfire... I cut sections out and glassed it back together in an attempt to fix the trouble, but I got annoyed with it and lost interest in the project. That was years ago. The front is still cut in places, but it's salvageable. I was tempted to use a cracked Bomex front bumper I have to fix it and make it look like it actually belongs, but I don't have the desire to put my time into a project I no longer care about. I just have no interest in big bulky fiberglass kits anymore.

i was planning on grafting something to an '02 nose i may be getting her very soon......i planed on slimming it up so its not real bulky...makeing sides and an '03 rear in the same fashion....
I have to agree with you on the Razzi kit too......mine is a beater in a sense and I like doing all the work myself.. go with a Razzi, Jessica or something close
p.s....ya wanna get rid of some of those pieces ....

I dont see it worth the effort unless its a show car only.

Too much work to risk it on Jersey roads, I speak from experience.

your easyest way out like others said is just to sawp the the 95-02, if you want that bumper.

The best option is to spend your money on something that isn't garbage. I know I'd love to have the money back that I spent on big fiberglass body kits. If you want something aggressive for your 03+ Sunfire go with Razzi or RK Streetfire.

thank you for advice. i love the shape of my headlights now. too much of a hassle i see. there are other things i'm interested in doing to the car. i just ordered louvered side window covers. and next up rally stripes. the cars white so i'm thinking blue or teal. for now i'll hold my breath on a xplosion to come out for the 03-05 models and not worry about a body kit.

i like the blits from the side but not straight on so many options for 95-02. unfair !.

I have a '96 and I have had so much trouble deciding on a nose that I am just going to put a bunch of pieces that i like together and mold up a new bumper......or.......it will be traded for a newer model sunfire......personally, i like gary's kit...
