So today I was sitting at lunch eating my sandwich when my tech told me I'm not allowed to call it a sandwich because its a burger. So what do you guys think, are you not allowed to call a burger(sub-category of a sandwich) a sandwich?
Well, burger is is a slang word for Hamburger, which is what the meat that makes the patty is called before cooking.
while it IS technically a sandwich, hamburgers usualy have a hot meat patty and other dressings and condiments within a bun, as opposed to 2 slices of bread.
I'd kick the tech in the tech-sticles to make sure he doesn't reproduce.

its a hamburger sandwich, anything between 2 peices of bread or bread product like a bun is a sandwich, i had an omlette sandwich this morning and it was good

Technically, you're right, because the name hamburger comes from the style of meat in it--Hamburg steak: as originated from Hamburg, germany...

basicallly, it started a huge debate, and his argument was that the majority says it this way so that is the right way to say it, and I don't really care about the majority. All I know is I'm soon getting away.
screw the majority, i hate that herd mentality.........oh well if the majority starts shooting heroin, it must be ok, and good for you.......start the rebellion, its not just a hamburger its a SANDWICH

It calls it a sandwich right in the definition. Therefore to me a hamburger IS A sandwich, call it what you want.
Eh, sandwich is a broader term than hamburger. You can say you're having a sandwich and it could be subway, burger king, patty melt, anything between bread. Say hamburger and I think of hamburger patty on a bun.

I call it food..... but yes, working at Burger King, I get this kind of thing all the time. Basically, if it's got hot, cooked ground beef in it.. it's a burger. Otherwise, it's just a sandwich until someone gets REALLY technical and breaks out terms like 'stromboli'

"What happened has happened, and there's nothing we can do about it"
Like it was said before, it's just a sub-catagorie. It's like argueing if have to call a bulldog a bulldog, or just a dog. Ether one works just as well at the other. Just depends on how precise you want your info to be.

thats like the new angus steak sub at subway..they makes it look healthy like its a sub but its got a big hunk of meat so really its just a glorified hamburger. jared=ghey

I work at Mcd's everything is called a sandwich, some people assume that sandwiches only are things like ham and cheese, but a sandwich is anything that is in between some kind of bread and the the stuff is "sandwiched" by the bread.

My cheese steak has cooked ground meat in it, but I wouldn't call that a hamburger.
All hamburgers are sandwiches but all sandwiches aren't hamburgers.

who ever says "hot dog sandwich"??? but maybe you've heard someone say that but i never have. to me a sandwich is like coldcuts, and if your gonna calla 'burger' a 'sandwich' then u might as well do the same with a taco. i dont kno y ur gettin all technical anyway because you can call it whatever the hell you want. u r eatin eat not anyone else. Its like tomato(Toe ma toe) tomćto(Toe maa toe) <---hope u understand what im tryin to say here
this is byfar the dumbest topic ive ever seen, who cares what its called, ill call my food anything i want, doesnt change wat it is

I think it has to do with the shape of the bread...a burger is in a bun...when a sandwich is in bread...that is the difference.
A patty melt is a sandwich, even though it has a burger in it...it uses bread, not a bun...that is the difference
Oh, and the whole debate over the tube steak (i.e. Hot Dog), is that it is more so a sub sandwich...becuase the bread has a "hinge"...so its kinda like a phille steak and cheese.
^^i dont think i agree with the whole "shape of the bread" thing. personally, i prefer to eat all of my sandwiches on buns, usually hamburger buns. i dont like the crust on loaves of bread, and ive found that the round shape of the bun is much more efficient with how my sandwiches are made. usually i get my sandwich meat and cheese fresh from the deli, which means that they are usually from round logs. thus the bun shape is filled much better than the square bread type.
a burger is any sandwich that has a burger patty on it. add any type of condiments or toppings to it, put it on any shape or type of bread, and its still a burger. there may be a better, more specific word to describe it, but burger is what it is. same thing for sandwich...its a broad word that covers many more specific names.
I'm sure Gerald "Lord" Sandwich is rolling in his grave right now...
A burger is a sandwhich, that much is clear.. The question is, is every "Hot-Dog" a Frankfurter (origination at the worlds fair if I remember correctly, the vendor ran out of plates and started using bread)?
PAX
a piece of chicken between a bun is called a chicken sandwich at most restaurants / fast food.
ground meat is generally considered a burger when in between a bun.
a hot dog is a hot dog, no sandwich or burger dammit., yet if you put sliced meat into a hot dog bun it becomes a mini sub?
turkey when sliced in between bread is considering a turkey sandwich, yet turn it into ground turkey and make it a patty and it's called a turkey burger?
I think it just all depends on the form of the meat that it is inside.
Nope, no it doesn't. That is slang taking over the actual language, again. Anything in bread is a sandwhich, period. Burgers are sandwhiches, period. This isn't even debatable.
Now, what makes a frankferter a frankfurter dammit? Is just the low grade sausage enough, or does it require a bun. Keep in mind that the first were created due to a shortage of plates at the world's fair.
PAX
I kinda doubt that it would have been becuase of the bread, becuase it was exactly that, bread, not a bun.
As for what make's it a frankfurter, that all depends, were so used to calling it hot dogs that we don't know what kind of meat was in it, it could have been all beef, or all pork. Or it could have been a combination of the two.
They wouldn't have been like those Oscar Meyer hot dogs becuase, if I remember right those didn't come out until the 1940's or 1950's, when they started adding chicken parts to the mix.
I think what makes it a frankfurter is the size of the casing its in. A frankfurter is the smallest sausage they made during that time, next up being a bratwerst, and so on and so forth. I think thats what makes it what it is. The bun just came becuase of circumsance.
is a sandwich really a sandwich, there isn't any sand involved in it's making
is a sandwich a sub catagory of sand
who the f cares.... your teacher is a tool, god get a dictionary, or an encyclopidia and bring it to him and show it hime a sandwich it
