Question for the Christians
Monday, April 04, 2005 9:45 AM on j-body.org
So, While i was ridden with insomnia last night, thinking about my friend in Slovakia, the energy medium that spritis inhabit and how tthat medium could be generated by the bioelectrical field that surrounsall living matter,a dn how it can manifest and maintain outside of a corporeal body, they dynamics of Ley lines through different mediums (oceans, different rocks, etc.), and why if garlic is supposed to make you sleep very well, and i put about 7 cloves of it on the pizza i made, why i'm still up pondering these things while counting the cracks in the ceiling, something came to mind...

Like most men, I look at porn. One think i've run into in a decent amount of non-gothic porn (not counting gothic because of the nature of that genre of porn), is that the women posing are wearing pendants on neclaces in the shape of a crucifix.

Now, while i know that some necklaces like that are talismans for those not of christian faiths, i was wondering...

How do christians see that? After all, pornography is supposed to be an immoral thing, yet a holy symbol, like a crucifix, could be consdiered desecrated by it--almost how some patriouts see a naken woman wrapping herself in an american flag as a desecration.

So, for people like 4x, jb4jc, hahaha, andazzo, et al. How do you feel about that--women...or even men wearing a crucifix necklace while posing for pornography?

Simply wrong in every way. There is no need for that symbol to be incorporated with that kind of act.

Just for note, i'm a practicing Christian, but i was raised in a very christian household. But i see that as, they have already pretty much hit rock bottom of morals being in porn, wearing a cross while it is horrible, you can't get much below rock bottom...

but like i said, i am not a practicing christian. Someone who has more faith than me might take a totally different stance on it and say it is 10x worse

It's like what happened when the "Grunge movement" became just that...a movement. It superceeded it's purpose as an ideal or a state of mind and became a fashion statement or a way to fit in with others. I would imagine Christian Jewelery, Christian tatoos, etc. fall into this category and are more an expression of fashion or "fitting in" than a religious statement.

it's not the symbol, the symbol in any act is just a symbol. it's the believers of the symbol that matter.

the nude girl wrapped in an american flag, that's just freedom of expression. i see it as art. she is being protected by that flag in two ways, her nakedness is covered, and her right to express that remains free.

same with the cross. some will take it one way, some will take it another. in the end, no one really cares.

of course no one really cares, it would be like seeing my chaos star worn by someone listening to the Partrige Family. Granted, it's oxymoronic, but i see it as, "whatever".

It's why i wanted the opinions of christians to see what they thought. Personally, i think it's either a part-time christian, or a talisman of sorts.

so you wouldn't be offended by someone that is clearly not of your affiliation wearing the mark of your affiliation?

...that's awfully christian of you...

Re: Question for the Christians

what part of "affiliation" are you refering to? A sigil is just a sigil IMHO, and my "mark" has none of the same power for anyone else as it has for me.

Besdies, most people wear a septagram as a færie star, not a chaos star.

As with all things, it is what the wearer is thinking that matters. I doubt porn stars do a lot of thinking. Hell, if did, they'd get a real job. Anyway, anything can be abused, or misused and will be. I don't care for the use of a crucifix related to porn, but, and here's the big but. Why would anyone think it is sinfull? The crucifix has many meanings for one, and on top of that, nudity is not sinful. The guy who is having adultrous thoughts is the sinner, not the girl who posed. If the pose includes sinfull acts, it is not more sinful because she is wearing what might be a Christian symbol.

Offer her forgiveness, she knows not what she does.

I meant it less about the sin itself, but more about the, how shall I say, hypocrisy of the situation.

Again, it's hard to know the situation, because it's not live i've seen a woman posing, wearing a crucifix, ankles behind her head, and ask her why she's wearing a christian symbol when christianity en masse seems to not condone the activity of selling sex or pornography. Granted, like I said, it could be a talisman of sorts, but I can see how some would consider it sacreligious.

Sinful, no. Sinful would be having a certain friend of mine lying naked between my sheets when i walk in after a long day with a certain gleam in her eyes, and me call towards the heavens, "Bless me father, for I am about to sin." Sacreligious, that's nore or less how i'd percieve it.

And I don't really offer her forgiveness, i find it bitterly ironic.

It's some director's idea. They're trying to portray the "good girl" or the "girl next door" thing.

"oh my, look at the good girl being naughty"

What they don't seem to realize is that we all KNOW she's not a good girl, so it doesn't work. Instead we end up less interested in the porn and more interested in the irony (and goldy and bronzey) of the situation. We should take it all and throw it in the hot orangey thing under the mantel piece.

doing porn and wearing a cross is no worse than saying goddamnit when tripping over the curb as you're walking into church to go worship God. personally, i could careless, sin is sin, theres none greater or lesser in value, all are equal in God's eyes. All the same, God does not love the guy going to church any more than the person doing porn. He loves us all equally no matter what our actions towards Him are. If Jenna Jameson loves Christ, more power to her. I'm not gonna judge her, because frankly, I've seen her work, and yeah I'm a Christian so that would be kinda hypocritical.

I think the problem here is that we tend to hold people to a higher standard more often than not... ie, muslims, christians...etc etc..

Re: Question for the Christians

Could be...

I dunno, I know how some people get when you take something that they use as a sigil for themselves, and put it into a situation that could be against everything that the sigil stands for and people blow up. It's why i asked.

If it's for the "good girls gone bad" thing...whatever.

KOTL, i see where you are coming from here and everything, so i gotta add to the topic and ask another queston that sort of fits in, i think, does the burning of crosses in racist activities infuriate the christians more than a normal level headed person?

Re: Question for the Christians
Tuesday, April 05, 2005 3:16 PM on j-body.org
First, i think you'll ruffle some feathers by insinuating that Christians are not normal level-headed people . I know what you meant, but that could be taken wrong

Second, your question is a quirky one at best, because, in the instance of the KKK, Burning the cross is not seen as a sacreligious act against Christianity (to them, i can't speak for all christians). They look at it as basking in the Glow of Jesus and God--if that makes sense. While i cannot speak for porn stars that wear crucifii and don't know their reasoning, i can say that i've heard a KKK member say that's they they burn crosses. Further, most christians will say pornography is a sin...

Is burning a cross a sin? Nowhere that i've seen it written. In fact, since the cross was the implement that cuased yesus to die, it could be taken in a positive message...but i'm no christian, so i can't say for certain.

yeah, definitely NOT trying to ruffle the religious in a bad way.

while not being seen as sacreligious by the ones committing the act using a symbol utilized by the church and performing the actions "in the name of the father"( while i am not certain i believe that the burning of the cross was to symbolize god's anger with the non-arian(sp?) races, much akin to the destruction of soddom and gomorah, and that they are the ones "chosen to perform god's work) would this not be considered more horrific a sin? In the name of the Father....

i duno, i am reading it now and it is not making much sense to me, i know what i mean however i am unable to effectively get the point across clearly.

It is by far one of the worst things that christians can see. Jesus is looked at as the savior for all human kind. The cross is the utinsel used to save all of our lives.

Basically what I am saying is that the cross symbolizes life... plain and simple. Included in life is the freedom from eternal damnation (going to heaven). So therefore when a cross is used in a way unrelated to is meaning, wether it be on a porn star or it being burned, it is still an attack against the religions that view the cross as the saving symbol.

Granted the cross is the direct symbol for life and heaven and such, these pornstars are about a hypocrytical as it gets. Doing somthing that is obviously a sin to christian religions, yet saying they support heaven and whatnot.

However, an "good" christian will not get furious about somthing like that. As it is said christians should never hate, they should help and guide. In other words they should try to talk to these people about what they are doing and teach them the ways of the chuch.

This is just a brief description of the many ways christians (particularly cholics) would see it. I was born and raised as a catholic and went to a catholic school from K-12 so I definatly have the knowledge of almost all catholic beliefs. I dont really practice a religion though. I am I guess one of those people that see things in all ways whenever possible. Had a christian person come on here and write about how its is so awful that people do these things I would have defended the people that do wear crosses and stuff like that. If you have any questions about the catholic church in particular I am defenitly willing to discuss anything from a neutral standpoint. I think I was the only one that came out of that school not being brainwashed and able to view things from all standpoints. Needless to say I have many arguements in that institution where I took the non-catholic standpoint.

I don't think the Porn star is hypocritical at all. Maybe she isn't a believer at all. Maybe she yields the cross for the reason of seeming "innocent" and "fragile". However, even though I think that only believers in the cross and its symbol as the structure Jesus was nailed onto to die for the World's sims should yield it, that doesn't mean that non-believers can display the cross also.

It does upset me to see the cross used in such a degrading situation, but I wont enrage myself over it because what can I do about it? The lady is still sinning, whether she is yielding that cross in the movie, whether she is a believer or not, she is still a sinner. Everyone is a sinner, and can be forgiven. Some of you are just as bad as that porn star when you steal a candy bar from the store as a child, or think lustful thoughts about the secretary in your office. Whether you wear the cross while you are sinning doesn't matter.

Also, there are no "good" or "bad" Christians I think. Either you believe in the practice and apply it to your every day life and consider yourself Christian, or you only go to Church to make it look like you're religious, and then go out and not apply what you learn to your life or reflect upon what Christ did for you, then you couldn't consider yourself a Christian. You are right, Christians cannot hate material things like people, objects, animals, however, they can hate ACTIONS brought forth that they do not like. Jesus loves all of us but hates some of our lifestyles. Which reminds me of a common misconception people believe; that God hates gay people. God does not hate gay people, he hates their lifestyle and the way they choose to carry out their sexual desires.

So all in all, I wont get worked up if a girl decides to wear a cross in a porno flick. She is still sinning and because she is wearing the cross does not mean she is a believer and I cannot do much within my power to make all porn stars in the world stop wearing crosses, I just pray for her to be saved from her sinful..... 'career'.

How do we know they're religous??

ok. prime example. and merely for the sake of argument...
(ripping off Bill Hicks, R.I.P.)

Ok...we take jesus...string him up on a cross, sick nails into his limbs, put a crown of thorns on his head, and stick a spear through his side...

I don't know about any of you, but if i were jesus. I wouldn't want to see another f'n cross for as long as i exist...

I mean what next, wear a rifle pendant to a kennedy convention?? .."just thinking about john"... Or maybe a nice necklace with a picture of eastern express (christopher reeve's horse(if memory serves me)).

We don't.

And we're not supposed to. I just mentioned she's still a sinner, whether she believes in God and sinning or not. That's all I care about. The fact that she yields a cross across her neck doesn't matter to me because, like I said, we have no clue if she is religious or just doing it for the 'innocent' image.

If that was directed to me anyways
