Debate--a bit mroe lighthearted...
Monday, April 18, 2005 10:24 PM on j-body.org
To stop ragging on the things like religion and politics, which permeate this forum, here's going to be another debate that pokes fun at people that inconvenience us, and make our lives a living hell...especially in enclosed public places like a bus or an elevator...

So, i ask you all to debate this: what's worse: Someone that hasn't bathed, or someone that basted themselves with perfume or cologne?

Someone who hasn't bathed is by far the worst of the two.

Someone who hasn't bathed and tries to cover it up by basting themselves in perfume or cologne.... is the nastiest thing I have ever to experience.. especially when it's hot.

hmm, i would have to say too much perfume or cologne. BO, while smells nasty, isn't as potant as someone who douces on the cologne. You pretty much have to be next to someone who has the BO, but you can smell the cologne 10 feet before they enter the room

The Perfumed Marinaded brisket is by and large my biggest annoyance...

There's one woman at work that uses half a bottle of Chanel #5 daily. She always gets the full elevator (there's only one working now... renovations) to herself. Whe also wonders why people don't eat near her, or why her office was put in a (albeit large) Storage area, and there's a HEPA air purifier in the office.

Oh.. here's the funny thing, she used to be in forensics, but they moved her to records because her perfume over-use was contaminating evidence. The new "NO SCENTS IS GOOD SENSE" campaign has a 4'x6' poster facing into HER shed. Still hasn't got the point. She's going to get sent home one day because of that... she's prolly that dense that she'd wonder if she wore offensive clothing...

By far I rather be near someone who bathes in cologne/perfume. Some peoples BO CAN be overpowering where they stink up a room in just mintues. With too much perfume, I can stand it cause it KINDA smells good, albeit too much ummmm good. Also I am paranoid about scents attaching themselves to my clothes and I would much rather have someones perfume on me (eventhough I'm a guy) than someones BO.

you haven't smelled bad BO......i've had to spray my whole desk area and the walkway...and the lobby..and the entrance way sometimes because some dude doesn't think he needs to shower....

Good question keeper..something finally different to read about, haha

I have to say someone with mad BO. I work at a retail store and I deal with people all the time that for some reason feel like deodorant is the devil.....ha. The first couple of times I helped people with mad BO it wasn't so bad, I just through it off as a bad coincidence. But after two years it's getting a little old, and it's getting a little hard to help these people as best as possible when all I'm really trying to do is just get away. When I first come up to these people to help I'm usually about two foot away, but after about two minutes I'm usually about five feet away. I know this sort of thing happens to these people often, you'd think they'd get the hint. Not to bring religion in to this, but I've heard that in some religions deodorants and/or cologne/perfume is against their considered unexpectable to wear.

For me, like some, it depends...

If the perfume/cologne scent is unnatural, that is the worse than bad B.O.

If the perfume/colonge has a poppy-based scent, then i can't stand any of it.

B.O, while bad, is at least a quasi-human scent (albeit an unwashed on), and i can tolerate it to some points. It is worse, however, than a more "natural" perfume/cologne.

And no problem starting this one...after all, this one will let us poke fun at people that need to be made fun of. bathe or lay off the perfume.

BO Sure it can be bad but it's natural, so I don't really mind it, compared to perfume/cologne of course. I don't mind cologne/perfume but it has to be subtle, to much gives me a headache.

Hey a little sweat is sexy (even on chicks...) but mix in the pungency of unwiped ass and you get the drift... either way, I say grab a firehose and let 'er rip!

sometimes you can smell someone who hasn't bathed in awhile yards before they get to you, as well...and when it's that bad, i'd rather be around the perfumed nastiness.

have you ever gotten to help one of those "gutterpunks?" yknow, the ones who live on the streets? when i worked for a card store, one came in to get a card for his mom(real sweet and all that...). i almost puked while ringing him up...i think that was the longest 5 minutes of my life.

it's a shame, too...he was disgustingly polite and softspoken.

I'm allergic to some perfumes so I'll take a little BO anyday over some perfumes. Back in high school one of my classmates had a BO problem and was given the nickname DirtyDavid, he took it in stride though and could come up with some hilarious rebuttals.

^exactly.

My whole question is who do these cretins think they are impressing being part of the great unwashed or who's daily dressing of perfume/cologne requires a Haz-Mat crew to clean up.

Hey, I kinda had a mini-test on this preference the other day in my psych class:

The guy directly in front of me had a lot of cologne on. It was kinda getting on my nerves at the beginning of class, before lecture started, but it smelled kinda good.

Then, this girl sits DIRECTLY next to me (tons of empty seats, wtf?) and she breathes through her mouth the whole time. Every time she looks down to write something down, she moves her head in my direction and breathes. Her breath was horrid. Like she hadn't brushed for days. I found myself inching closer to the guy in front of me, trying to smell his cologne to get her stinky breath out of my nostrils.

Moral of the story: too much perfume/cologne over BO anyday.

By far the worst scent has to be of the unfortunate individuals who are homeless and have not showered in months, crapped and pissed their pants, and have thrown up all over themselves and still have pieces left in their beard.
