the 3.1 is not more powerful than the 2.2 ecotec. The horsepower ratings are the same. It may have a little more torque, but that would lost with the 3 speed auto tranny.
Hey, the cherry bomb turbo on the Eco has a 4 cylinder sports cars sound. It is not loud. It does not sound like a fart can. It sounds like a sporty cylinder should sound when you get on it, but quiet during normal driving. It flows easier than stock and gives a little more power after 4000 rpm than the stock muffler. It also weighs a little less than stock. It does not make it into a muscle car or make it pull like a turbo charger. It is a mod that costs very little, hurts nothing, and makes your car drive and sound a little better. Maybe I used the wrong title by saying it works wonders. But I wanted people to read about the muffler change. Getting a 2 mph increase does not take a lot of horsepower in a light car with a 5 speed. I would also expect a 2 mph increase in my Lt-1 wagon if I put on turbo mufflers. They have been dynoed to give 20 horsepower on the 260 hp. Lt-1Caprice. So why is 10 horsepower unreasonable with a muffler change in the 140 hp. cavalier? The difference in horsepower for the same gain is due to the different weight of the the cars and their different transmissions. If you do not understand this logic, then there is nothing else I can say to make you understand. I try to get the most I can get for my money. I am not rich, if I were I would be driving corvette and a dodge magnum wagon. Not a cavalier ( wishing for the RSM supercharger) and a Chevy caprice wagon.

I can walk an 2.2L Ecotec no problem. MY 3.1L is more powerful than your 2.2L...and a stock for stock...5-speed - 5-speed...the 3.1L makes more power...and my Auto makes more than your 5-speed.
That muffler is not a Mod...it's a crappy/cheap OEM replacment.

I said changing from 2.56 to 2.93, Everything in cars is a compromise. 2.56 to 2.93 would give a moderate increase in performance for a slight decrease in gas mileage. 3.73 gears, for example, would be more for the strip and not for the highway. The people that designed these cars are not stupid. 2.93 gears for the wagon is for the factory towing package. I have read many posts on this site how people have thrown their money in the trash for headers, cams, a larger diamater exhaust, etc. and have gained nothing. I research before I speak. Before you start talking about the Lt-1 caprice, research the impala ss and lt-1 websites like I have.The Lt-1 caprice can be built to 400 hp.and run 100 mph quarter miles with heads, a cam, 3.73 gears, and a throttle body. There goes your stock transmission . Not to mention your gas mileage and several thousand dollars.. The supercahrger in the ecotec cavalier wiill give me all the power I want ( up to 100 mph in the quarter ) and not hurt durability or drive ability. I will proabably only lose 1 or 2 mpg for an 8 to 10 mph increase in the quarter mile. Also, before you start those suspension mods, try a decent set of tires. You will be amazed what a set of michelin hydroedge tires will do for handling. Also. try some simple ( and low cost ) mods that hurt nothing and give some mild gains like changing the muffler or drilling the airbox.

I won't be putting my money in the trash for guess work and dyno tests like many people on this site seem to want to do. They find someone selling perormance parts and get suckered into ruining their car. Take your time, research, and do the mods in a logical manner, or buy a different car that already has the performance built in..
frank, do us a favor. and go supercharge your car, and keep your stock everythoing else. prove us all wrong.just be sure to post slips. and about the lt1, idont care if you own one, but when you scan the title to prove you do, scan your timeslips too.

Actually dude, the smart ones will ignore your advice. You have all these people on here who know ALOT about these cars, they have posted an abundance of VERY useful advice and tips. They ARE the smart ones, just listen to them quite a few of these people are on here simply because they know more about these cars than most.
If you did actually experience gains from the cherry bomb, then great. However 2 mph is not the result of a simple muffler swap, there are many variables such as, weather and driving technique. The "smart ones" have tried to tell you this MULTIPLE times, but you have failed to pay attention to their advice. I am hoping that this post will eventually die down, but Frank, do yourself a favor and be open-minded and realize that many of these people on here know what they are talking about. You could learn a lot from these people.

Seriously Frank. I can't help but to post. This has just gone way too far and I am going to try and e-mail Dave to get this thread locked ASAP. The information that you are giving out is just plain wrong and you are really showing exactly how much you know. You are being too thick-headed and cocky about your nameless university degree to even think for a second that experience in the field is more important than your guess-work. There is no excuse for you to preach something that you have never tried yourself. It is fine if you want to claim that your muffler showed improvements with your vehicle, but when you start giving out numbers and making absolutely rediculous claims about products that you have only ever read about on the internet, that is where the line has to be drawn.
